What age should kids get their first gun?

Talking with a friend yesterday who is also a mom and I posed the question at what age should kids get their first gun.  Holy cow, you would have thought I said at what age do you give kids crack.  Then I realize that we all grow up with different norms, but what road do you follow when mom and dad don't agree?  Well a big plus of single parenting is that I follow my road and when my kids visit their moms house then she's in charge. 

Really, at what age should kids get their first gun?  I got my first gun at about age 10, but I'm thinking it may be earlier for my children.
