My children are a bit young for this one, but this is just one of many topics you will want to discuss with your children at some point. I'm sure that all of us have been exposed, overheard, or became witness to some conversation using the words, "Separation of Church and State". I actually just heard these words coming from a local TV news anchor last night, but why? I have never been able to find the words separation of church and state in our constitution, but I can find it in Russia's constitution. Call me crazy, but we don't live in Russia? Or do we?
I've heard separation of church and state my entire life and I assumed that it must be true and from our Constitution, but I was wrong. Are you teaching your children the truth? Are you sure?
Here is the 1st Amendment of our constitution (Don't take my word, look it up for yourself) :
Amendment 1 - Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression. Ratified 12/15/1791.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
