Vitamin Angel

I often visit my local supplement shop, but so far philanthropy was not one of the reasons for my visit. Today in the Vitamin Shoppe staring at me is the picture of a little girl in some third world country, you know the one, so sad with the longing eyes for help staring back at me. It’s just another scam or some mega rich person with a guilty conscious for all of their wealth coming up with another do nothing, but feel good program. But the little girl’s eyes staring at me also remind me of the late night unrelenting infomercials “Give just 2 cents a day and you can save 4 billion starving children, put them through school, and buy them an iPod” that often have me turning the channel. Yep, I disconnect. Not because my heart is black, but because I wonder in the back of my mind will it actually help. Just like the homeless on the street that just want my money for drugs and booze. As quickly as I will share these thoughts with myself and even others, I am just as quick to give a couple of bucks to the homeless. At the end of the day I just don’t know if it’s going to a worthy cause, but which side of the I’m a sucker argument do I want to be on?. So I give where I can..

Vitamin Angels is getting vitamins to kids in those third world countries. I don’t really know at this point if they are succeeding, but I know my money can’t hurt their cause. However, my not giving money can! So I donated and I encourage you to do the same.

  1. Of course, proper nutrition is required at every stage of life for a balanced growth of body & mind. Health supplements may be a right thing in this direction.
