Is High Fructose Corn Syrup Making You Fat?

Great article from My Fit Foods; I'm a big fan of what Mario M. put together with his concept of My fit foods.  Even though Mario is a Marine (ha), he put together a great tasting and easy program for all of us to reach our ideal health goals.  I urge you to check them out: http://www.myfitfoods.com/

(My Fit Foods article):

Fifty years ago 10% of the U.S. population was considered overweight. Using the same standards now over 70% of the U.S. population is considered overweight. That is crazy….70% of our population. Take a look around the next time you are at work, the percentage is right. One of the main culprits is High Fructose Corn Syrup.

HFCS has the exact same sweetness and taste as an equal amount of sucrose from cane or beet sugar but it is obviously much more complicated to make, involving vats of murky fermenting liquid, fungus and chemical tweaking, all of which take place in one of 16 chemical plants located in the Corn Belt. HFCS is doubly problematic, he says, because it fails to stimulate leptin (the hormone that makes you feel full) and doesn't lessen ghrelin (a hormone that makes you hungry).

HFCS is used to sweeten jams, ketchup, soft drinks. A lot of people quit drinking sodas and all of a sudden they lose 15 lbs. HFCS actually inhibits your body from releasing fat, so instead you just store it. By the way, here is a good one…it is also a favorite ingredient in many so-called health foods. Next trip to the grocery store, read the label on a Nutri-Grain bar. Number 1 ingredient...you guessed it...High Fructose Corn Syrup! A classic case of great marketing with really bad science behind it!

Interestingly, although HFCS is used in many products aimed at children, it is not used in baby formula, even though it would probably save the manufactures a few pennies for each can. Do the formula makers know something they aren't telling us?

So to sum it up for you….eat food with High Fructose Corn Syrup, you will stay fat. I am proud to say that My Fit Foods is HFCS free, nothing but the best for you and me. You are what you eat. When you eat fit food, you will feel energetic and you'll feel like exercising. Eating fattening foods with HFCS will make you feel like a couch potato or worse yet a ding dong!
